I have been with Oanda for about a year. Oanda is a market maker so they actively trade against there customers. They actively hunt stop losses. Oanda’s trading platform freezes often. I have lost my connection to my trading account while trading and they told me that I was having internet connectivity problems even though I could get to other web sites and log in to my email without a problem. They also did not know that I used to be a network administrator before telling me that I was having internet connectivity problems. Oanda is a highly manipulated environment. The correct term for this type of broker is a “Bucket Shop”

ECN brokers are the most free market breed of broker. They do not have a dealing desk that can be manipulated. ECN brokers want you to be successful because they make money when you make money. Oanda makes money when you loose. As time moves forward traders will opt for ECN brokers and market makers will go bust.

Oanda is one of the best brokers out there. If I remember correctly, they calculate interest on a minute basis. Other brokers give interest or swap rates after the close of the trading day but Oanda gives it every minute. And it is quite normal for pip spreads to jump up during news times. Thank you.

Spreads become unstable when economic releases are made.Isn’t that problematic?

I find Oanda site confusing especially when looking for where to find the trading platform. That’s probably because Oanda has got more to do with currency information services too. But once I got to the Oanda forex site and downloaded their platform the going’s been good for me at least till now.

I found Oanda spreads to be tight but variable. So that’s always at the back of my mind. I opened my account with just a couple of 100 dollars although you can do it with even $1. Unlike other brokers that give you a leverage of 100:1 or even 200:1, I think Oanda leverages are conservative at a maximum of 50:1. Of course you can choose anywhere between 10:1 and 50:1. I am comfortable doing it at 20:1, as that keeps my trading under check at all times.

Oanda platform works fine with my Mac operating system although it works equally well with Windows too. I think the platform is very compact, and the only issue is you must have Java installed in your computer. What I find great with the Oanda platform is the news feeds that are state of the art. The indicators and charting I don’t like too much. Interest on my account balance was supposedly calculated by the minute, but can’t really understand how it does that. Best part of course is the spreads for Eur/Usd, that’s very low. What I also like is the near similarity between the demo and the real account features. That means you get to know before hand what you really bargained for.
